Which Red Sparrow Tea did the Prime Minster choose to drink?

8.30am Monday morning, on the way to school drop off I received a call from Nicole at the Coffs Harbour Council telling me the Prime Minister was coming to town, that he liked tea and could we serve him some?

“The Prime Minister?” I asked astonished, thinking I hadn’t heard correctly.

Yes, the PM Malcom Turnbull, visited Coffs Harbour for a fleeting visit Monday morning to officially open a footpath which marked the start of a $1 million redevelopment of the international stadium. So 2 hours after that phone call Bridgette and I were on the way to serve the PM tea.

After his official duties of photo taking, cutting the red ribbon with giant scissors, various speeches, media photos and important discussion, he came over to our little tea stand in the shade and I offered him some tea.

He chose our best-selling green tea, Japanese Garden, and while he sipped it he asked about the business, how we made the tea, where it was blended etc. It was probably nice for him to have a “normal” talk with people amongst all his official meetings, appointments, discussions about gay marriage, problems with North Korea and other such things a Prime Minster would have to deal with.

He commented on the tea and said it was lovely, and told us he was going on to visit his 95 year old Great Aunt who lives locally, after the official business was done.

For the record, our local member, Luke Harsuyker drank French Earl Grey and our lovely Mayor, Denise Knight chose Irish breakfast. Excellent choices by all our pollies!
